Lightyear connects to your accounting software to keep your financial data accurate and consistent. If you're planning to move to a different accounting platform, this isn't a simple toggle. Lightyear uses a formal migration process to protect your data. Here, we've explained why, what's involved, and what to expect.
Why integrations can't be changed directly
When you connect Lightyear to your accounting software, your accounting software gives Unique IDs to your account codes, suppliers, and tracking categories. These IDs keep your data mapped correctly and maintain the integrity of your financial records.
If you switch the connected accounting software on your existing account, these internal IDs are incompatible with the new software. This can break the mapping for your historical bills and coding, leaving your existing data inaccurate or unusable.
This applies whether you're moving from Sage 50, MYOB, or another platform to Xero, or between any other supported integrations.
Why a new account is created for the switch
To protect your data, Lightyear doesn't allow you to change the integration on an existing account or company. Instead, a new account or company is created as part of the migration.
This ensures your historical data stays intact on your original account, and your new integration is set up correctly from the start.
How the migration process works
Switching your accounting software integration is handled as a development task by Lightyear's team, not something you can complete yourself. To ensure your data stays accurate and your new integration is configured correctly, the process requires:
Lightyear's development team setting up your new account or company.
Reconfiguring your integration to connect to your new accounting software.
Verifying your data mappings are accurate in the new setup.
⚠️ Important: This process is not self-serve. Contact Lightyear Support to begin a migration.
Cost of switching integrations
Switching accounting software integrations is a paid service. This charge covers the development work needed to migrate your account and confirm your new integration is set up correctly, with minimal disruption to your financial processes.

Why can't I just change the integration on my existing account?
